Your weakness? Your strength?

My impatience is my weakness, but in artistic work it is often also a strength, because the intuitive creative decisions often turn out to be the better ones.

What makes you different?

I work in various disciplines: Photography, painting, collage, printmaking. By jumping between working methods, I can search for the best expression.

When did you decide to become an artist?

When I was about 16 years old. I experimented with screen printing and did graffiti. That was a good start.

Do you choose your art form, or does the form choose you?

By playing with different means of expression, I choose the art form only
conditionally. The form oscillates in the process. I decide the stage at which I finish the work.

What do you find most fascinating about the creative process?

I’m always amazed at how much a job can “get in the way” and problems that I have to solve. The surprises and difficulties that arise while I’m working appeal to me.

A few words about your favorite creation?

If I had to choose just one work, I would definitely choose a work by Cy Twombly from the “Natural history” series. The interplay of wild painting and graphic elements is something I really like in these pictures. I also find the way Twombly deals with open spaces unique.

What surprised you most about your first art shows?

It was impressive to see how intensely people can engage with art. The spontaneous feedback was the best. You could hear how differently the
works affected the visitors.

Someone else’s work that inspired or inspires you…

I am very interested in the work of Luigi Ghirri and Albert Oehlen.

Who would you like to work with someday and why?

I find collaboration particularly exciting across disciplines, with people from the field of theater or fashion. I could well imagine working on stage designs.

A new project coming up or an idea you want to work on?

The next exhibition is a group exhibition in Vienna in November, which I’m really looking forward to. I’m also planning to graduate from the art academy in Düsseldorf next year.

Finish the sentence ,More important than my career is…

Family, and enjoy the process of my work.

2025: Where are we going?

Hopefully in the direction of peace.

Do you think about time as an artist?

Time in relation to art means having a relevance in the works that still exists years later.

When the going gets tough..

Then I take a break, listen to music or continue working on something else. I always work on several projects at the same time. The decisions I make then help me to come back to the problem and approach it differently. Then it becomes easier again.

Put on your future vision glasses: What direction is our generation
moving in, what will our world look like in 50 years?

When the optimist and philanthropist is asked, the answer is the same: Fascist ideologies are a thing of the past. The young generation is creating a transformation towards more justice. That would be the end of environmental destruction, war and hunger. The pessimist would rather not answer that.

What would you do if you could change the World?

I would make it mandatory for the few people who make a lot of decisions in the world to have an empathy advisor at their side.

What does freedom mean when it comes to art?

For me, great freedom is being able to realize my ideas uninhibitedly, without having to worry about serving something that people have become accustomed to.

If the universe is everything and it’s expanding, what is it expanding into?

Hopefully in a positive direction.

Tell us about your future plans…

Over the last two years, I have rediscovered new techniques that | want to continue experimenting with. For example, I have replaced the layering of picture planes from my work with old advertising posters with photography, drawing and printed, translucent fabrics. I am interested in how these new materials can work in layers and what changes they bring about.
